EFFIE TRINKET
HER TRIBUTES AREN’T THE ONLY THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS SEASON.
can…not…wait!

can…not…wait!
a status on facebook read something along the line as: should i feel obligated to watch for colored girls because i black. because i don’t.
as i mentioned i am not a fan of tyler perry movies, some will go as far as to say i am not a fan of the stereotypical “black movies” with the cliche story lines, corny jokes and more often than none, the exact same actors. one of the selling points for me was it wasn’t one of tyler’s ‘i can do bad all by myself madea family reunion why did i get married’ productions.
it made me laugh at first when i read the status, and as i read through the comments, the writer response with her reasoning that tyler does not make movies that speak to her so unless his movie is titled ‘for ______________ (insert name here)’ she won’t be seeing it. i totally get her point, not everyone is the battered woman, can’t find the right man woman, troubled woman, but many women are and we know them. we work with them, they are our sisters, our friends, and on some level we all have our battles. movies are not only be the reflection of ones life but of things we do not know or choose not to see. if your life is completely rosy, well what can i say you are beyond blessed.
but to answer her question, no you shouldn’t see the movie because you are a black woman, i was actually disappointed but not surprised to see only black women and 2 black men dragged there by their dates at the movie.
you should see it because you want to.
had a sunday night date with my mom and saw for colored girls. i am not a tyler perry fan but this was a very good movie. very emotional and real, so much so that i can’t believe i had never heard of for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is not enuf. needless to say it has been ordered on amazon.
my favorite poem is somebody almost walked off wid alla my stuffperformed by lady in green. and hearing thandie newton’s line, ‘being alive and being a woman is all I got, but being colored is a metaphysical dilemma I haven’t conquered yet.’ was still as profound as hearing it in the trailer.
now i know the movie has faced criticism but it is difficult to turn a choeropoem [as it is deemed] into a movie. if you come in with that a lot of the long one sided conversations by the ladies make sense.
this morning i read on one of my fave tumblrs, the smithian and came across an excerpt from an essay by lee hill on npr entitled findng a palce for colored boys. it ends with…
hopefully one day, more narratives will unearth the delicate taboo of the wounded black male and his journey to find “god in himself.”
for colored boys? right now, it remains unwritten, but that’s a story i’m waiting to see.
that is a story many would want to see.
now playing at angelika film center in manhattan and in los angeles on september 24, before opening in europe
finally doing what i had planned to do this summer. someone recommended the millennium trilogy [actually someones] so i finally gave in.

it is actually pretty good. one book almost down, 2 and half to go. i’ll try not to spoil the ending for ya.
also decided to sign up for netflix to keep myself occupied and i think i have fallen in love…in love with director chan wook park.

his vengeance trilogy is beyond amazing, even tarantino says so, lol. being a tarantino fan its no shocker that i also find these thrillers reveling. watched all 3 in a day. i would have to say old boy tops my list but none failed to disappoint.
dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. romans 12:19
though the resident evil series went down hill since the first one, i can’t help but love them. so yes i will be seeing this. what can i say, mila kicks a$$! lol
judge if you want!
