the bookcase

most people’s are filled with books, mine contains magazines [a few now defunct: a sprinkling of jane and a ym]. the others are mostly marie claire [my go-to mag], elle, harper bazaar, a few glamour and  a vogue or 2 [picked up the march 2011 issue a week or so ago]. then there are the rarities: 3 issues of arise, pop’ africana issue 1 [pre-ordered issue 2], an issue of dc magazine [considered interning there but all the fashion was apparently done in l.a.], vogue italia’s black issue [which someone ripped a page out of!] as well as the following year’s black barbie supplement, i-d’s pty issue [chanel, jourdan, sessilee and arlenis. need i say more]. oh and at the top of the book case sits 3 issues of v magazine [v67, v68, v69]. i might have left some random others out, but all that is left are what remained after a much needed pairing down last june.

i was never much of a recreational book reader, mostly because i had enough books to read for school. a small collection has formed mostly from school books i came to love.  my most recent addition in form of fiction is the dragon tattoo trilogy.

i love fashion books, they are like beautiful picture books for adults, lol. my first purchases were 100 contemporary fashion designers (taschen 25 anniversary) and the fashion Book midi edition. followed by louis vuitton: art, fashion and architecture. last week i got fashion of the 20th century: 100 years of fashion ads and fashion icon: the power and influence of graphic design, bringing together my love for advertising and fashion. i hope to someday have a whole bookcase dedicated to both my loves.

beneath it all lies the boxes that hide away the secrets as well as the junk.
